Greg Bird will play five innings at first base for Triple-A Scranton starting Wednesday.
Bird hopes to be back with the Yankees sometime next week.
Bird (right ankle) hasn’t played for the Bombers since May 1. He underwent “successful” surgery to remove the os trigonum in his right ankle, a lingering spring-training injury that has limited him to just 19 games.
He initially suffered the injury late in spring training after fouling a ball off of that area of his leg, but continued playing.
Prior to his injury, the Yankees first baseman was woeful with the bat, posting just a .100 average with a single home run in 72 plate appearances.
