- Everton are understood to be weighing up a move for Christian Benteke
- No contact has been made yet with Crystal Palace over the Belgian striker
- Everton’s primary target to add to their forward ranks remains Olivier Giroud
Christian Benteke has been discussed by Everton as an alternative option should they fail to prise Olivier Giroud from Arsenal.
It is understood no contact has yet been made with Crystal Palace for the 26-year-old, who is happy in London and looking for a new home there. However, the former Liverpool striker is admired by staff at Goodison Park.
Another striker being discussed is former Manchester City man Edin Dzeko. At 31, Dzeko would have to come at a good price for the Toffees to press on with a deal.

Everton want to sign three more players this window following Wayne Rooney’s arrival with £50m-rated Gylfi Sigurdsson and Giroud top of their list.
Swansea have told Everton they want upwards of £45m for playmaker Sigurdsson.
The Premier League club are aware of increasing interest in Sigurdsson from Everton and also from Leicester City.

Everton hope to do a deal somewhere near the £35m mark but sources at Swansea indicated today that the Welsh club will not sell for less than £45m. Ideally, that figure would be edged up towards £50m by various playing-related add-ons.
Giroud travelled with Arsenal to Sydney on Sunday as Everton ponder their next move. Giroud’s future is in doubt after Alexander Lacazette’s arrival but the fact he has made the 12,000-mile trip suggests the Frenchman wants to stay and fight for his place.
Benteke is also on Chelsea’s list of options but Palace would be reluctant to lose their main striker, who cost £27million last year.
